Quaker House provides an affordable hired venue space for community and business activities as well as being the home and place of worship of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in Plymouth. The vision for the modern accessible meeting house is to provide a sustainable building offering a welcoming space for people to meet (classes, events, training) and or worship.

To Quaker House

Quaker House strives to create a peaceful and friendly environment. The building has 2 large rooms, 1 with disabled access, and 2 medium sized rooms for hire. Plus a small room for counselling.

The room hire has a minimum of 2 hours and thereafter can be 30mins to additional full hour bookings.

Friends Meeting Room

Ground floor

The Friends Meeting Room has wheelchair access and is light and spacious. It can accommodate up to 40 people depending on the layout and has separate access to the rear of the building.

Fox Room

Lower ground floor

The Fox Room is down two short flights of stairs and can accommodate up to 50 people depending on the layout. It is spacious with natural light and a small kitchen area tea and coffee making facilities.

About Plymouth Quakers

The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) meet for worship at Quaker House every Sunday between 11am - 12 midday. The meeting is based on silent waiting on the Spirit, which may result in spoken contributions. Plymouth Quakers have met in this way since 1654. All are welcome.

Plymouth Quakers have been located on Mutley Plain since the 1920's when they founded the Swarthmore Adult Education Centre. In 2003 it was decided to build the Quaker House on the site of a former electrical shop next door. This was then refurbished in 2012 to improve disability access.
